London— 26 October, 2011—Virtustream, Inc., a leading cloud solutions provider, today appointed Karl Deacon as managing director for EMEA. Deacon has a long track record in the deployment and operation of complex, multinational IT infrastructures across a range of industries including consulting, logistics, telecommunications and finance. With years of experience in previous CIO and CTO roles, Karl is recognized as a thought leader and brings to Virtustream a unique skill set that combines strategy and transformation, operational delivery, commercial negotiation and product development.
Deacon joins Virtustream from Capgemini where he was most recently vice president strategy and global CTO of the Infrastructure Services strategic business unit. At Capgemini, Deacon was at the forefront of new and expanding services, inclusive of its cloud services and orchestration platform, and a cloud advisory service that he built into a profitable group of more than 35 senior management consultants in its first year.

Spanning his more than 20 years in the IT industry, Deacon has fueled the dramatic growth of a series of IT and consulting business services. Prior to Capgemini, he was director of international operations and engineering, EMEA, at WorldCom, where he led a team of more than 800 people as they provided critical services to internal users and commercial services to EMEA clients. Deacon has also held senior international roles at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Logica and American Express, and served in Her Majesty’s Royal Navy.
