Cloud Leveraged for a Rapid Post-Acquisition Integration of Tate & Lyle Sugars

Virtustream, Inc., the enterprise cloud solution provider, announced that Tate & Lyle Sugars has used Virtustream to migrate its full application landscape to the cloud.

Domino Sugar (American Sugar Holdings, Inc.) recently acquired Tate & Lyle Sugars from Tate & Lyle PLC, including refineries in London and Lisbon. Domino Sugar is the world´s largest refined cane sugar producer, and Tate & Lyle Sugars’ operations are the leading refined cane sugar producers in the United Kingdom. Immediately after the acquisition was complete, the two companies sought to leverage Virtustream’s xStream hybrid cloud platform to facilitate the consolidation of mission critical applications required to run the combined business.

The immediate challenge was to “carve out” Tate & Lyle Sugars’ business applications from Tate & Lyle PLC’s overall technology environment, and then to integrate them into the Domino Sugar’s technology landscape which already ran on the Virtustream xStream cloud. In order to do this, Virtustream employed its patent-pending hybrid cloud solutions by way of deploying an xStream cloud appliance on-premise into the Tate & Lyle Sugars’ United Kingdom data center, with a built-in connection to Virtustream’s off-premise xStream cloud nodes in the United States. Virtustream then employed its own post-merger integration application migration and data archiving methodology to complete the carve-out and integration.

“We needed a partner to help us rapidly achieve synergies during our transition to the cloud and our migration into the Domino Sugar environment.” said Ian Bacon, president, Tate & Lyle Sugars. “Not only was the xStream solution a powerful catalyst for the integration process but, going forward, has provided new business opportunities with improved agility and performance.”

At the center of the integration efforts was Virtustream’s enterprise-class hybrid cloud solution,xStream. xStream allows Domino and Tate & Lyle Sugars to provision, manage, meter and bill for global computing consumption with a standard unit of cloud capacity called a micro-VMTM (µVM). Domino Sugar uses the xStream enterprise hybrid cloud solution for the majority of its IT operations.

“Domino Sugar and Tate & Lyle Sugars showed tremendous vision in recognizing that cloud can accelerate post acquisition integration, particularly around resource efficiency and cost reduction,” said Rodney Rogers, chairman and CEO of Virtustream. “The result is a more dynamic, rapidly integrated business.”
