Magic Quadrants provide a graphical competitive positioning of four types of technology providers, where market growth is high and provider differentiation is distinct:
The IaaS report builds upon on a recent report, also by Gartner, that organizations will spend nearly $109 billion worldwide this year on public cloud services, an increase of 19.6 percent over last year. Organizations spent $91.4 billion worldwide on public cloud services in 2011, and that number is expected to grow to $206.6 billion by 2016.
According to this year’s Magic Quadrant report, cloud compute infrastructure as a service, which Gartner describes as a virtual data center of compute, storage and network resources delivered as a service, is a still-maturing, rapidly evolving market. They note that each service provider has a unique offering, and the sourcing of these services must be done with care.
