The Myth that Enterprises are in Control of their In-House IT

One of the first objections to moving corporate IT to the cloud is that organizations will lose control of their second most valuable resource: their information. There's a perception that the cloud is not secure and will never be truly enterprise compliant. But the reality is that the new generation of enterprise-class clouds can offer a more secure and compliant solution than even some internal IT operations. New cloud security and compliance tools now support very high levels of security and compliance – meeting financial, healthcare, industry, government, and or even defense standards.

Most enterprise IT today is a complex mix of old and new: ­ mixing hardware/software/virtualization and supporting many generations of applications. In fact, over 60% of IT budgets are spent just keeping existing systems up and running, rather than helping solve new business issues. IT experimented with public clouds and found that the experience was best efforts: ­performance was dependent on a lot of other users and factors that you couldn't control. However the new enterprise-class cloud has changed with the invention of cloud directors like xStream ­that provide application performance SLAs and the economic benefits of multi–tenant cloud, all in a highly secure and compliant environment.

Now it's possible to move legacy, web-scale and even mission critical applications (like SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, and others) to the cloud and have their performance both assured and secure. In addition with new hybrid clouds, the IT department can retain full control over the whole operation – onsite and offsite. Now the best of both worlds is possible. With the cloud delivering guaranteed SLAs and allowing the IT departments to focus on delivering new services, business can be much more confident that cloud systems can deliver their firm's future.
