WASHINGTON - Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - Virtustream, Inc., the leading enterprise class cloud software and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider, today announced the results of recent performance/value testing by independent analyst Cloud Spectator. The report found that Virtustream’s xStream IaaS cloud outperformed 14 of the leading IaaS Cloud providers worldwide, as defined by the Gartner 2013 IaaS Magic Quadrant on performance/value.
The Cloud Spectator portfolio of tests covered a wide range of performance characteristics for enterprise IaaS cloud services, comparing overall performance, application latency, application throughput and consistency over time, in addition to considering both raw performance and cost/hour of the service to compare results. As far as possible, the tests match the services tested (CPU, memory, disk space), using comparable offerings from the top 14 cloud providers*. On the majority of tests, Virtustream significantly outperformed AWS, Microsoft Windows Azure, SoftLayer, IBM SmartCloud, HP Cloud, Rackspace, Verizon Terremark, CenturyLink Savvis, Dimension Data (OpSource) and Fujitsu over sustained periods of time. Virtustream performed extremely well across the broad suite of tests – which are designed to represent typical enterprise cloud requirements. In particular, Virtustream had the highest marks in the characteristics that align with running traditional production applications in the cloud (SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.) – overall performance, network throughput, disk throughput for multiple applications, consistent latency, and HTTP performance.
Virtustream µVM™ cloud technology enables intelligent placement and management of application resources, which results in higher application performance and consistent response times. These characteristics are required for production enterprise applications to run in a cloud computing environment. Virtustream’s µVM™ patented technology, architecture and processes specialize in migrating and running traditional mission-critical and production applications in the cloud including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft and custom enterprise applications. In addition, Virtustream’s consumption-based pricing enables outstanding performance as customers can reduce costs by only paying for resources used. Virtustream’s enterprise class cloud also integrates industry leading security and compliance solutions to exceed industry standards.
The business value to enterprises of migrating mission-critical production applications to the cloud is significant. The enterprise application market is worth over $120 billion annually, while the number of enterprise applications is growing at over 70 percent year-over-year (based on IDC, Gartner forecasts). The latest cloud technology can move this $120 billion market to a modern cloud world and deliver immediate economic and agility value to businesses.
“The need for enterprises to take advantage of cloud computing economics and agility is exploding,” said Rodney Rogers, chairman and CEO of Virtustream. “Virtustream is proud to be the most effective cloud IaaS platform as defined by this Cloud Spectator study.”
Virtustream’s IaaS cloud architecture is able to deliver these high performance and consistent results across multiple applications because of the combination of xStream cloud management software – which utilizes the intelligent resource placement and utilization algorithms of Virtustream uVM™ technology on existing virtualization – and high-performance Intel Xeon processors, Cisco UCS compute platforms, scale out Cisco networking and NetApp storage architectures.
