Virtustream Included in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure as a Service, Worldwide

Evaluation based on completeness of vision and ability to execute

Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C - Thursday, June 11, 2015 - Virtustream, the enterprise-class cloud software and services provider, today announced it has been included by Gartner, Inc. in its “Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)” for the fourth consecutive year. Gartner’s annual report “evaluates all industrialized cloud IaaS solutions, whether public cloud (multitenant or mixed-tenancy), community cloud (multitenant but limited to a particular customer community), or private cloud (fully single-tenant, hosted by the provider or on-premises)….Cloud IaaS includes not just the resources themselves, but also the automated management of those resources, management tools delivered as services and cloud software infrastructure services.”

An increasing number of organizations now run mission-critical business applications on cloud IaaS (Gartner's cloud computing survey indicates 28% in 2014), and a significant number of additional organizations are in the midst of migrating most or all of their infrastructure to cloud IaaS.1

According to the Gartner published report “Bimodal IT: How to Be Digitally Agile Without Making a Mess” by Mary Mesaglio and Simon, organizations need to learn to operate in two essential modes, known as bimodal IT.  Bimodal IT refers to having two modes of IT, each designed to develop and “deliver information- and technology-intensive services in its own way. Mode One is traditional, emphasizing safety and accuracy. Mode Two is nonsequential, emphasizing agility and speed.”2

Initially, most businesses adopt cloud IaaS for Mode Two, agile IT projects that may be peripheral to the organization's IT needs, but may have a high business impact.  As a business becomes more comfortable with the use of cloud IaaS however, it will be used in Mode One, mirroring the past decade's adoption pattern of virtualization in the data center.

We consider this announcement to be reflective of the continued growth and expansion of the company in the enterprise-class cloud market. “We have maintained a rigorous focus on our mission to industrialize solutions for our enterprise clients. Our ongoing commitment to meeting large enterprise application performance, security and compliance needs are core differentiators for us,” said Rodney Rogers, Chairman and CEO, Virtustream. “We are honored to be included among such a prestigious group of cloud providers.”

For enterprises seeking to move legacy mission-critical and web-scale production applications to the cloud, Virtustream is the enterprise-class cloud service that is both highly scalable and performance assured across the broadest range of application needs and service-level agreements. With advanced features such as µVM (micro-VM) resource optimization technology for enabling application-level SLAs and consumption-based billing, enterprise customers worldwide rely on Virtustream’s cloud services to reduce overall costs, turn capital expenditures into operational expenditures, and increase efficiency to free up resources across people, capacity and budgets.
